Whether you can skate or not, you have probably heard of the movie ‘Dogtown’, starring the late, great Heath Ledger. It’s set in the 70’s, when skateboarding took an evolutionary turn adding a somewhat anti-establishment view and an edgy element to the ‘sport’.
Apparently, it came about when Californian surfers got the idea of trying to surf the streets when there were no waves.
In the coming few weeks, with surfers from around the world bombarding the Gold Coast for the Quiksilver Pro you might want to keep an eye on your backyard pools. If Mother Nature puts the brakes on the waves rolling in, you might just come home to your pool emptied and a group of rambunctious extremists making use of the newly created skate bowl!
