DJ Sanchez - Back in the Mix : CD

Saying that Hip Hop’s dead, means a lot of things to a lot of different people. But when you’ve got a DJ who almost exclusively mixes and remixes ‘golden-era’ tracks, you kinda realise just how shit a lot of the genre is today. With notable exceptions like Mos Def’s The Ecstatic, 2009 was a pretty run-of-the-mill year
for Hip Hop. “Run-of-the-mill” read: shit.

DJ Sanchez has the tonic though. After nailing his set up at Sugar for the Fringe Spin DJ contest and rocking Rymill Park at the Opening Night Party, DJ Sanchez is finally winning some much due praise. I first picked up his mixtape from REALSTORE back in 2006 when it was on heavy rotation in the store. Now we’re revisiting with his 2009 “Back in the mix” where, once again Sanchez takes your favourite tracks and brings them together seamlessly.

It’s like the DJ knows exactly what you’re wanting without ever appearing predictable. With the headphones on, listening to Back in the Mix is like
listening to a manlier Girl Talk, it’s got that same head-rocking side effect. It makes me want to cook BBQ and guzzle beer in a baggy white t-shirt, while fellas on deck chairs slam dominos!
