Shakespeare once wrote that “a rose by any other name would smell as sweet”, yet it seems impossible there could be another name that could so accurately sum up the atmospheric dreamscape of Steering By Stars. From tense, personal introvertedness to epic, heart-stopping breathlessness the group’s sound and name so beautifully capture the eternal search for purpose that is life. What is truly amazing though, is how much of this is achieved without lyrics. On their first record, Steering By Stars have achieved a level of wordless emotion that most artists spend their entire careers just hoping to get a glimpse of.

Close your eyes during ‘Blush Response’ and you will see images of new life; of day breaking, and of flowers blooming. Imagine you’re watching your favourite band play a gig, and right in the middle of your favourite song, the band goes off on an unexpected instrumental tangent that lasts just over half an hour, and changes everything you thought you knew about music, and you’ve come close to understanding what it feels like to experience Cables by Adelaide’s own Steering By Stars.
