Agents of Orange

Abandoned houses sunken in their rotting surroundings want to be noticed. Four Detroit artists are roaming their neglected streets, coating their community’s run-down buildings in ‘Tiggerific’ orange paint – creating what they call ‘Object Orange’.

The newly painted corpse of once-lived-in houses have captured the attention of both the residence and people around the world to the plight of these abandoned buildings. These dangerous neighbourhood playgrounds, sitting around waiting to be demolished, often harbour drugs and prostitution.

The Detroit artists see ‘Object Orange’ as a critical step toward re-invigorating their deteriorating city. While in the past abandoned houses were left to quietly rot away, now "our part is starting conversations," says one of the artist. These forsaken houses are now coming to back to life – if only to be noticed then destroyed.
