John Hughes and Rejected, or 'How Harmony Broke her Brain'.

Everything was going to plan. I was on holiday in Melbourne, having a blast and kicking back like the young people do, when suddenly two things happened: someone showed me a very disturbing yet oddly hilarious video on youtube, and I was informed that famed pop culture kid and teen movie coming-of-age King John Hughes had died. Gen X is REALLY copping it this year.

So here I sit tonight, suddenly faced with a massive dilema: should I honour the memory of one of my alltime favourite movie makers, or should I share the humour and disturbing imagery of this rather bizarre visual catastrophe?

The answer is, you get both.

So let's take a moment to appreciate the clever irreverence and absolute horror that is 'Rejected', an Academy Award nominated short animated film by Don Hertzfeldt, before we remember our dear pal John, the maker and breaker of Molly Ringwald's career and the only reason why Matthew Broderick had one to begin with:

Rejected by Don Hertzfeldt

And now that that is over... *twitch*

RIP John Hughes, 1950-2009

Now, let's test a bit of your John Hughes movie knowledge...

and let's not forget...

Name 5 more and you'll win a prize: My respect.

God's speed, Johnny Boy.
Here's hoping you finally got the girl.
