Put it on your "urgent attention list". Adelaide's finest fashion designers are graduating and this summer is probably the last time you'll ever be able to afford their clothes! Merge caught up with designers Julie White, Alice Mere, Madeline McFarlane, Yen Nguyen and Gemma Stocks on the eve of their final year graduation parade to talk about the past, the present and the glimmer of fashion to come as they prepare to step out on the scene. All five girls are contenders for the major prize this year of a trip to New York as part of the "G'Day USA" troupe. The trip includes all sorts of insights into the business, plus NEW YORK... c'mon!!

 

Merge caught up with the girls for a feature that'll appear in our first issue of 2009 but wanted everyone to have a sneak peek at the amazing creations of these five uber-talented seamstresses. Using conventional and unconventional fabrics, and all manner of thought processes to arrive at their final garments, the class of 2008 have truly struck out in an exciting and unconventional, yet totally wearable way.
