If you’re anything like us your childhood consisted of long hours lost rummaging through piles of Lego searching for that f-ing corner bit. Artist Katie Johnson appears to have found a good spot for all those memories, dangling around your neck. Katie studied art just round the corner at Adelaide Center for the Arts, where she did a degree in painting and minor in jewellery. Although she makes brooches and other assorted goodies, we love the necklaces most. Hanging on a ghetto-length silver ball chain, the pieces usually feature a mash up of several different Lego-land characters. The characters parts are all fully interchangable apart from the head and torso which are glued together to avoid any unintentional decapitations.
Bird Jewellery is available from Irving Baby in the city, Nadias House of Serendipity, DTM (don’t tell mum) down bayside and online from
Katie's website.
