We've been following French graffiti crew 123Klan for quite a while now (not literally, do not press stalking charges). Aside from their tubular designs, what interested us was how the couple made the transition from graff to a successful graphic design business.
123 Klan is… a graffiti posse founded by Scien & Klor back in 92. It is also our creative studio since few years now.
Scien and Klor are… married, proud parents, French, based in Montréal,creative, doing graffiti since 20years old, funny people to hook up with,best people to work with and definitely in the place since 1992.
When we sketch, we… listen music, whistle, chat on msn with friends and havea beer in the same time.
The move from Graffiti to Graphic Design… never happened, as we still rocksome walls sometimes :)
We are inspired by… money of course, music, our kids, our friends, beers, graffiti, creative people, sign painting, American pop culture, root beer, Friendly's restaurant, Ruffles sour and cream cheese chips, and holidays.
Montreal is… where the smoked meat is the best of the world, where hockey isa religion, where people speak French in North America, where the subway issafe and not stinky, where people know how to party, where the Olympicstadium looks like a space ship, where people are friendly and nice.Montréal is just the place to be.
The biggest change in the shift from graffiti to graphic design… is the fact that you get paid forgraphic design, not for graffiti.
The future for 123Klan is… to keep it real.
Graphic design is… more creative and clever than marketing.
We work with… our eyes, our hands, our brain, our intelligence, a great senseof humour, our good friends, for nice clients, cool brands, assholes(sometimes), spray cans, Macintosh, paper, pencils, sharpies, printer,scanner, music and sunglasses.
Besides making graphics we also… eat, cook, drink, go to the gym, party, eata "poutine" completely drunk at 4am, sleep, paint walls, travel, go to themeparks with our kids, do a ton of things...
Spray cans are… the best invention of the 20th century.
Typography is… our second love after graffiti.
All our haters can… become our friends and spend their money on our online
store.
Success is… the result of kindness and endless hours working hard.
Our message to young artist is... to keep it real! Style is the message!
