Ever wondered where Gary got his epic vintage safari suit? Or Betty got her limited edition Gucci velour flares?
I’ll tell you this much – they did not pay $50 for them at any of your local Gold Coast ‘opportunity’ shops. The real business is in the outback. Hidden under that inland humble smile there is an untapped vault of super stylish nanna’s and pops offloading all their vintage joy on their local op-shops. On a recent road-trip back from Melbourne I stopped in a town (who’s name I will never divulge) to check out the local fayre.
After digging out a few $1 treasures, Nanna Shirley came by and asked me if I liked vintage clothes. Upon affirming this I was taken out the back – yes folks I have reached the mecca! – My girlfriend and I were given a gigantic box of vintage clothes to rifle through. I nearly wet my pants 3 times going through the box. After twirling and parading for the nannas around the shop and spending $20 (!), I am now the proud owner of about 8 seriously amazing vintage dresses. I urge you, go for a Saturday drive out west somewhere, at least an hour away and pillage the op-shops! As nanna Shirley would say ‘they just don’t make clothes like they used to’.
