17 January and 14 February: Fearless and original music-makers Hobo Obituaries have plenty to offer the world. With imagination, creativity and energy to burn, the brother duo are on a mission to bring the universe something unique using their powers of unrefined creation as they explore the outer orbits of the electro-rock realms. Self-proclaimed 'visual artists that make music' their super-fun digital low-brow sounds are both raw and entertaining smacking of substance and a perverse style all their own.
24 January: Acoustic blues guitarist Sam Shepard has a powerful, raw sound to it that is sure to get your foot tapping. Sam started playing guitar at four years of age and won the National Young Jazz/Blues Guitarist of the Year in 2005 at the Frankston international Guitar Festival. At the time he was just 16 years of age. Now finishing his studies at Griffith University he has played at festivals and is on the way to becoming a major guitar talent.
31 January: Holly Terrens is a singer/songwriter who plays piano. After years of flute practise and music theory lessons, she gravitated toward song writing. Holly has not totally abandoned her classical past however; she is often influenced by a Nocturne or Symphony. Audiences can expect a dynamic performance with strong piano riffs and soaring vocal melodies.
7 February: Amusé are a two piece organic electric band. The music ranges from laid back jazz to stomping acoustic trance, all performed with a couple of guitars, drums and a didgeridoo. Featuring conservatorium graduates Stephan Elmosnino (Organic) and Tom Combes (Electric) the bands’ music can only be heard live as they have decided not to record any original music to keep every set fresh and new to the ears of the audience. If you are lucky enough to catch a set, you may want to record a video on your phone, because these musicians only believe that their music should be enjoyed live!
Grab a drink and take in these cool new sounds on hot summer afternoons in the comfort of Gallery 1. Supported by the A-Venue Youth Music Initiative - a partnership between Arts Queensland and Gold Coast City Council to support local emerging music.
