Walking down Grote street on Wednesday the 13th of May my eye was steadily trained on the footpath so not to attract the attention of wayward booze hounds and overly attractive girls that would give me the "hmph, yeah RIGHT" look, when a shimmer of blue caught my attention. The odd shape at my feet kind of curled around in on itself like a freshly peeled apple skin. Stooping for a better look, I found that it was a watch. And once more, it was a Swatch watch! These Probably retail at around the $100 mark I guess - classic design and function with a "genuine leather" wristband. You beaut. What sparked this forum was the realisation that I've found a few dozen items in similar happenstances. I want to know what the ettiquette is on "street wear". What's the protocol on finding a nice watch like this? Do you hand it in? Who do you hand it in to? What circumstances should guide this protocol? I'd like to think that if MY watch had inadvertantly been misplaced that someone would find me and give it back. But this is not realistic. I thought of handing my Swatch Watch in at the shop I found it in front of but didn't want some ungrateful douche to simply bin it or pocket it. Finders keepers? I need Merge people to help me come up with some sort of resolution for the misplaced "street wear" (understood as items of clothing: accessories, wallets, shoes, shoe)found on the street with no aparent owner. A guiding mandate is needed to reconcile the inherent guilt of knowing that, had YOU lost this thing you'd appreciate it returned, but in the same instance hope that whoever finds it, likes it! Does that make sense?
