I work on Peel St, which is a cheeky little lane off of Hindley - meaning that I walk the mean strip every day on the way to & from the office. I've seen some pretty weird stuff along the way, but my absolute BEST Hindley St experience was a few months back.

It all began around dusk on the tail end of Rundle Mall. I was walking back towards Hindley, when some busker just started battle-rapping me. I had not provoked him at all (not sure how your 'provoke' battle rapping anyway - maybe I was wearing too much red). I didn't really know how to react to getting battle rapped either - I briefly considered busting some rhymes back, 8 Mile style, but the best I could come up with was something like "Yo I'm walking down the mall / If you go to Zimbabwe you can see Victoria Falls", which - aside from not actually rhyming - was also not relevant. So instead I just scuttled off, down to Hindley.

AND THEN, once I'd crossed over King William and began shuffling down towards the McDonalds, I passed by a car park where some guy was sitting out the front. And upon seeing me walk by, he began battle rapping me. Yes, I'd been rap-attacked TWICE. In ONE NIGHT. It was freaking great (although the second battle rapper was slightly more angry than the first and cruelly compared me to "Shaggy" from Scooby Doo). So that was my fave Hindley St experience.

How about ya'll? What's the best/worst/weirdest/stupidest/battle-rappingest thing that's every happened to you down the West End? Just the sweeten the deal a bit, the best story scores 25 bucks worth of free drinks at Bar on Gouger (which isn't on Hindley St but shut up). Orright!
