Attention Gentlemen! Before you skim past, thinking ‘girly shop’ let me tell you two things.
1 - yes, I Hate My Skirt does cater solely for the fairer sex, but 2 – you will all have to find something special for your mum, sister or girlfriend at some point in your life, so read on. The stylish fashion boutique has the feminine form covered from head to toe; shoes, hats, jewellery, underwear and clothing. I Hate My Skirt started life as an op-shop inspired fashion label. It’s now also a store, featuring clothing by some of Australia’s most sought after boutique fashion designers. Kristie Bragg is the brains behind the outfit, so to speak, both the label and the store.

Merge: What style of clothing do you stock in your store?
I hate my skirt: I like the fusion between vintage, eclectic, contemporary and modern designs. I look for clothing that’s really different and not seen so much in the market place. I’m very passionate about vintage and old-wordly designs.

Merge: How did you come up with the name?
I hate my skirt: I hate skirts, I don’t like wearing them.  Its’ a personal thing, I’ve always worn jeans.  Another element, was when I first started my label, I didn’t have cash so I would go to op shops, buy a skirt and turn it into something else.  You can have a piece of clothing that you hate and turn it into something you really love.  That was the concept.

Merge: What do you like more, retail or designing?
I hate my skirt: I love both, I tend to sit down every few months and create a collection and that will last for a few seasons. While sourcing and buying stock, and running a store is an everyday thing.
