Maybe when you come from Brooklyn there’s a lot to be angry about, I’ve heard things can get pretty hardcore out of suburban Australia.
The Vivian Girls are certainly not very perky about life. They’ve managed to be depressed in a kinda pretty way though. Practically all the vocals on this album are perfectly executed three-bit harmonies that are layered against a mashed-up, wall of sound style of production. If you could imagine Kimya Dawson on a speed rage with a couple of gal pals you might get the idea.
It’s noisy in a garage rock way, very chaotic and short - with the album’s total length sneaking in just over twenty minutes. I like all those qualities, I just lack the teenage/disturbed American/necessarily Emo angst that would be required to relate to the subject matter, but next time I’m feeling like the world has little to offer me I’ll know what CD to play. - FF
