FILM | The Rocker

Wow, how crap was that film? I like Rainn Wilson, he‘s the actor who plays the hilarious Dwight Schrute in the American version of The Office. Don’t expect any laughs here though; The Rocker is a cavalcade of continuous yawns. Boringly predictable, completely unfunny. A small chuckle was wrenched out of me after a line about John Lennon turning in his grave to hide his boner; looking back though, it doesn’t really seem that funny anymore.

Perhaps because there isn’t a stream of entirely unfunny dialogue before and after it. I’m even bored writing this review. Wilson’s Character, Fish, is a drummer. Twenty years after he is kicked out of a heavy metal band, Fish takes an opportunity to play drums for his nephew’s band at the high school prom. What a cringingly uncreative plot development. Joining Wilson on screen is Christina Applegate who, once again, is completely average in her role as a lackluster mother, and in due course becomes the love interest of Wilson. Only rent this DVD if you have intentions of scratching it.   - Doug
