CD | Spoon | TRANSFERENCE

I have listened to so much of Spoon’s music in the past nine years; all of their albums are starting to sound the same to me. Which kind of sucks because they are one of the only American bands that I actually like. So when Transference came out this year, I got confused, cried a bit, and then sat on the floor clutching my knees to my chest whilst gently rocking back and forth.

After such a long Spoon bender, I was having trouble distinguishing if they were any good or just boringly the same album after album. Turns out I’m an idiot, and Transference is one of their best releases so far. Spoon have revisited their roots and recorded a raw, post-punk collection of dynamic tunes. Their pop stuff is good, but this serious side has way more legs.

They still won’t get that first elusive gold record with this LP, but they should attract a new fan base with their rejuvenated sound. If you’re looking for some down-tempo, indie tunes to play while you get drunk and pop valium, Spoon have your listening requirements covered.. - Doug
