Let me begin with a disclaimer: this band will certainly not appeal to everyone. Anyone who has ever let the words “doof doof” leave their lips will shudder and probably deem this album to be too noisy. But The Qemists are not likely to care. And rather cleverly, this attitude is what has won them the praises of drawcard vocalists which will make The Qemists more accessible.
Their collaboration with Wiley goes back to the good old days before watered down grime was played on commercial radio (of which Wiley is ironically a leading culprit). But the real musical cred comes with ‘Lost Weekend’ which features the vocals of rock God Mike Patton.
Despite not being without flaws, The Qemists show real promise on Join The Q. If you think The Prodigy went soft after The Fat Of The Land then you’ll love The Qemists. Fingers crossed this is just the beginning as dance fans have much reason to get excited.
