Passenger - Wicked Man's Rest, by Chalkmark and Inertia

This band is like Maroon Five without the charisma...and with more songs about stalking. If you see the CD in a store just walk away and buy something better – eg; anything else. Somehow Passenger have been receiving these ridiculously complimentary reviews. I can only assume their manager is quite skilful in the art of bribery.

Lyrical ‘mastermind’ MikeRosenburg has been credited with writing “intensely beautiful” (The Sun), “panty-moistening”(NME) ballads. I can assure you that, throughout my excruciatingly dull experience of this album, my panties remained entirely dry. My face did get a little wet from dribble when I drifted off to sleep though.

I think maybe Passenger were aiming for artistic and understated. They’ve overlayed traditional pop structures with orchestral flourishes and brass sections. But they forget to let the orchestra and brass players make any noise; they just sort of creep along in the background adding nothing to the end-product. It is possible to be artistic and understated and interesting all at the same time, but clearly Passenger don’t know how. - FF
