CD | Flight of the Concords | I TOLD YOU I WAS FREAKY

This is easily one of the most stylistically weird albums I’ve ever heard; comedic parodies of rock, folk, rap, polka and disco and doing them in a way that sounds like they could be a song in the said genre. Flight of the Conchords are definitely the sort of band some people will not quite “get” though. As an avid fan of the TV show, I’ve shown it to friends who found it incredibly boring while others laugh the entire episode. The TV show and album definitely tie in together and the album will be considerably better if you watch the show first then listen to the album, because generally while listening to the songs I imagine the corresponding scene and find it a lot funnier. Not to mention the frequent ‘in-jokes’ (like epileptic dogs) which will not make sense to the people who haven’t watched the show. I’ve found the first season songs are better because they were written to be songs and have had the scene written around them. Having said that, the rap songs on this release are really funny and surprisingly enough have a decent amount of replay value. So, in short: if you like the show, go get the CD!  - Jackson
