CD | Grizzly Bear | VECKATIMEST

I first heard of Grizzly Bear when they toured the states with Radiohead last year. Jonny Greenwood claimed at the time that they were his favourite band, which is not so much an honor, but more like a right-of-passage for upcoming musicians. Jonny was right too, these guys are intense. The layered sounds are intrinsically beautiful and flawless. Guitars always hit at the right time, harmonies come in smoothly, and the piano surfaces just enough to add something while never encroaching on the arrangement. Take heed Chris Martin you musically retarded jackass. You won’t find any radio anthems here, only passionate music making. Veckatimest is a hard album to describe. Instead I’ve decided to depict certain scenarios for when their music would be appropriate. Running through an airport to tell someone you love them before they get on that plane (In slow motion), that’s track two. If you find yourself in a nursing home wondering where the time went, I recommend track four. Finally, track eleven would be ideal if you ever discovered the dead bodies of your children whilst searching for survivors in a train wreck.
