FILM | Ghost Town

A grumpy fat guy has a near death experience, and as a result can now communicate with the lost souls walking aimlessly around Manhattan.

Thanks to his new power, he manipulates his way into some hot chicks life, she sees him for who he is and leaves him, he really loves her though, and maybe she loves him, blah blah blah. Whoever comes up with these plots is qualified for two things. Writing romcoms, and bagging my groceries.

If you like Ricky Gervais, you’ll like this film. If you don’t, you probably won’t enjoy this film (unless you like thinly scripted romcoms). Ricky’s ability to deliver comedy so effortlessly is a gift; I laughed my ass off during Ghost Town.

The plot is crap, but there are some great supporting roles from Téa Leoni, Greg Kinnear and The Daily Show’s Aasif Mandvi to distract you from it. The directing is good, and some of the cinematography of Manhattan is breathtaking. If you go to the movies expecting no twists, or creativity, you’ll have a very pleasant cinematic experience. - Doug
