There is absolutely no reason to listen to this album. Its not that Breakestra are anything less than awesome, and its certainly not because this album sucks. Put simply, it’s because all of Breakestra’s previous albums are awesome and this one is not. Breakestra made a big splash on the international soul music scene with 1999’s Live Mix and 2000’s Live Mix Part Two (both collections of obscure funk covers presented as a mixtape but re-recorded by a live band). And if anyone was ever in doubt 2005’s Hit The Floor silenced those who ever doubted the band’s original songwriting prowess. Hit The Floor was a more contemporary take on the deep funk sound and showcased a collection of catchy and innovative songs that impressed DJ’s and music lovers worldwide. Aurally From Dusk til Dawn sounds exactly the same as Hit The Floor, but there are no standout songs. Each tune sounds similar with seemingly little effort to engage the listener with any kind of variation, the only track that is memorable is ‘Me and Michelle’ which unfortunately is only memorable for its poor choice of instrumentation as it features some of the worst violin playing in recorded history. A somewhat disappointing album from what is usually a reliable source of consistently awesome soul music - Ross
