This courtroom drama is the epitome of everything that’s wrong with television. For starters, it switches from humour to serious drama far too quickly and too often. Most of the characters are completely fantastic, not to mention unbelievable. Plus, the storylines are generally pretty far-fetched and designed purely to sucker you in emotionally (yech). That’s three strikes. So why does this show kick so much arse? Alan Shore (James Spader), and Denny Crane (William Shatner). Easily one of the best television duos I have ever seen. Admittedly, the series does construct plenty of relevant social commentary, but it really is just a vehicle for the comedic pair. Creator David E. Kelley can produce as many crappy shows as he wants about doctors and lawyers, but they are all going to suck without these two characters. One is a republican, one is a democrat. One has a fetish for midgets; the other has a fetish for long necks. One has mad cow disease, the other takes on the Supreme Court and wins. Essentially, both are sexual deviants with an abundance of money, power, and opinions. It’s completely hilarious, totally packed with wit and craziness. I wanna be a lawyer. - Doug
