For the past seven years, The Kanye West Eatery has been packed out – serving up some of the finest and freshest hip hop that made all the customers drool. As the hungry fans came to get their fill from the eccentric musical chef, Kanye’s head expanded from all the admiration he was getting. He thought he could serve the public anything he wanted and they would gulp it down it… How wrong he was!
Kanyzeey has thrown away all the ingredients that have made him a success and has turned to what he calls ‘pop art’ music for his fourth album 808s and Heartbreak. Using Auto-Tune technology that disguises his average ‘singing’ voice and the Roland TR-808 drum machine, the album gets boring the longer it drags on.
Lyrically, 808s tells the story of Kanye’s diamond encrusted life falling apart, from tracks to do with the break up of his fiancé to his mother’s passing away. He also manages to have a big cry about living the life of a celebrity on ‘Welcome to Heartbreak’ where he complains He said his daughter got a brand-new report card / And all I got was a brand-new sportscar and Dad cracked a joke, all the kids laughed / But I couldn’t hear him all the way in first-class.
My stomach can’t take the new food being dished up, so Mr West, you’ve just lost a customer. - Tom
